The answer is no. I understand that when they are asking this question they are talking about the time when Oprah lost over 65 pounds and managed to fit herself into size 10 Calvin Klein jeans. She practiced this in 1988 when she did fasting for four months. During this time she consumed only liquid shakes. Even today, there are extreme liquid only diets which have to be supervised by physician.. This type of diets are recommended as a last option, only when there is no alternative except surgery. These generally require a prescription and are used in very severe cases.
There are various such liquid only diet plans, but medifast is not one of them. It is often mistaken as liquid only diet as, this plan opts for very popular and filling healthy shakes as part of the master cleansing program. I suppose because it is composed of liquids people sometimes mistaken it for liquid diet. I can assure you from my experience that it is not similar.
This diet has plans suitable for different body constitution including women, men, and diabetics. Most of us in our routine are used to the five plus one plan, meaning we eat six times per day. For five out of this six meals, we choose from over 70 or more food choices. Amongst these are regular solid organic and healthy foods like chili, oatmeals, stew, eggs, and oatmeal. We do consume shakes and soups. Protein bars and granola bars which are quite popular are also widely used, but these is not a complete list of the available options.
