How Much Weight Will I Lose If I Just Eat Medifast? By Lindsey Price

I often write about this diet. The other day, someone asked on my blog "how much more weight will I lose if I just eat Medifast only and nothing else?" I'll answer what I believe is the answer to this question in the following article.
Typical Medifast Weight Loss: First off, you should know that the typical weight loss on this diet ranges anywhere from 2-5 pounds per week in the beginning. After that, it tapers off to around 1-2 pounds per week. So, if you're on the highest end of this range, you can lose a good deal of weight in a month's time. This is really a low carb diet in which you eat frequently (six times). The high amount of protein and the low amount of calories in the foods as well as eating so often pushes your body into a state called ketosis which encourages your body to burn fat.
So, there are a few things that you can do to get yourself on the higher end of this range. You can follow the directions to the letter and you can add in at least some movement or exercise into your day. As your body is already into ketosis, you don't have to go crazy with the exercise. But, the basic equation that we all know is burning more calories than you take in. On this diet, you're only taking in a little more than 1,000 calories per day, so even minimal exercise is going to bump up your fat burning abilities. I found that (at least at first) power walking was all that was needed for me to get this job done.
Why I Don't Believe Skipping Your Lean And Green Meal Is A Good Option: As I've already explained, you eat six times per day on this diet. Five of those meals are prepackaged Medifast meals and one is a more substantial "lean and green" meal that you make on your own. This basically consist of fresh vegetables and protein. It is a sensible, healthful meal and I see no reason to skip it. Here's why.
First, although the Medifast meals are nutritionally sound and high in vitamins and minerals, it's important to consume fresh foods. Second, this main meal is designed to be healthful and you are given directions to help you with this. It will enhance and not hurt your results. Third, eventually, once you reach your target weight loss, you will go in the transition phase of the diet where you begin to prepare more of your own foods. You will probably have a harder time with this if you've skipped the "lean and green" portion of the diet.
The whole idea here is to gradually, little by little, teach you to change your lifestyle and habits. If you skip an important part of this equation, you'll likely have a harder time with long term success. The bottom line is that this diet is supposed to work as designed. You really shouldn't need to change it.
